About

Hello everyone, and welcome to my website! My name is Ashley Magee, and I am a first grade teacher at Jesse Stuart Elementary School in Western Kentucky. I previously taught second and third grade in Lexington and then spent two years in the computer lab at JSES. The 2011-2012 school year will mark my fourth year teaching first grade, and I really love it! Growing up, I loved playing "school" and pretending to be a teacher. I went through a few phases where I thought I wanted to be a tornado chaser or a forensic pathologist, but teaching was always there in my mind and ultimately won out. I consider myself very lucky to be teaching at such a wonderful school. There is no other school I would rather be at!

I've lived in Hopkins County all of my life except the one year I taught in Lexington. I grew up in Charleston and attended Charleston School, West Hopkins Accelerated School, and I graduated from Hopkins County Central in 2001 (Go Storm!).

I enrolled in Madisonville Community College right out of high school and graduated in 2003 with my Associate in Arts degree. After graduating from MCC, I enrolled in the Murray State University 2+2 Program here in Madisonville and graduated in 2005 with my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-5.I am currently pursuing my Master's degree from Murray State in Teacher Leader with an Instructional Technology Endorsement. I hope to finish my Master's during the 2011-2012 school year. I then plan on pursuing my National Board Certification.

I love computers and technology and actually met my husband on the internet in 2001. His name is Colin, and he is from Alberta, Canada. Colin moved to Kentucky in 2003 to attend graduate school at the University of Kentucky. We got married in 2006 and live here in Madisonville. Colin is the instructional librarian at Madisonville Community College. :) Colin became a United States citizen in June 2011!
Colin and I have no children, but we do have an amazing cat named Annabelle. We adopted Annabelle from PetSmart in May of 2010.

My mom and dad also work for the Board of Education. My mom is an instructional assistant at Grapevine Elementary School. She works with a kindergarten teacher. She helped me a lot with setting up my colorful classroom at JSES. My dad works at the transportation department as a bus mechanic. I have one sister, she graduated from Central in June of 2011.

I have a lot of hobbies! Unfortunately, I don't always have a lot of time to spend on my hobbies. I love playing board games and my Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. I also love watching movies (both animated and not animated). I also enjoy doing various arts and crafts projects. Shopping is also a favorite hobby of mine! I love buying things for myself and my classroom. My other big hobbies involve computers and technology. I love taking pictures with my digital camera, surfing the internet, and creating websites.

• Favorite Color: I love rainbow colors, but if I had to pick just one favorite color, I'd probably pick pink.

• Favorite Drinks: Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Sprite, Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper, Strawberry Crush, water with lemon, and homemade Strawberry Smoothies
• Favorite Fast Foods: McDonald's, Chick-Fil-A
• Favorite Restaurants: O'Charley's, Patti's
• Favorite Movies: Alice in Wonderland, Wall-E, The Little Mermaid, Lilo and Stitch, Harry Potter, Hairspray, and lots of scary movies
• Favorite Candy: Kit Kat, PayDay, Aero Bar
• Favorite TV Shows: Survivor, American Idol, Next Food Network Star, several other reality shows
• Favorite Bands or Singers: Duran Duran (I love 80's music!) and Disney Soundtracks
